I downloaded the windows 2008 enterprise edition and tried to install on partition of my windows 2000 Server machine. The installation was successful. No problem occurred. When windows 2008 restarted, it asked me to change the administrator password , as I was trying to log-In first time. When i entered the password, and confirmed password it gave the following message. " unable to update the password. The value provided for the new password doesnt meet the length , complexity or history requirements of the domain." I tried many combinations of passwords and complexity but failed. What could be the problem?

Use a Capital letter while making your password.... I finally got it to work by capitalizing the first letter in my password.....and made sure there were letters and numbers in the password....so that its "complex" enough for microsofts standards. Good Luck!

I have 2008 Standard server. If I try change password when I am logged in it's gave me error unable to update the password. The value provided for the new password doesnt meet the length , complexity or history requirements of the domain. I can change password in users management and if I forced user to change password it works too. If I remove password complexity I'll get same error and All shows that GPO is active. Any ideas?

I am using a capital letter, 3 lower case letters and 4 numbers (which is working for my current password), but it won't allow me to change the password using the same configuration of letters and characters!

you must reset password and make it enable

I tried more then 3 dozen passwords and nothing will, f*ing work. Microsofts bull shit is pissing me off. This is what you get for paying $1000 for windows server.

This tip works!! all you need to do is to make the pasword as complex as possible. Thanks mwadden. This is an example of a complex password .. @$#SLEX2012pa#
